When I received the Rocketfish wireless mouse for review, I
was all, “A wireless mouse. I have one. What’s the big deal?” OK. I’ll tell you
what the big deal is: it totally rocks! This is a great wireless mouse for
people who travel (and even for those who don't).
The Rocketfish wireless mouse is compact, comes with a travel case, and you can assign functions to the three buttons. It also has a little slot for the USB receiver so you don’t have to worry about losing it in your computer bag. All this for $44.99.
Plus it just looks cool. To store it while traveling it’s
flat; to use it you twist the bottom half and it’s ready to ergonomically serve
you. Check out the the Rocketfish mouse in action.
Picture this: You arrive to your out-of-office meeting and start
setting up your computer. No big. No one pays attention. Then you take out your
Rocketfish wireless mouse and twist it into its ergonomically ready shape, pop
out the USB receiver and suddenly you have everyone’s attention. ‘What’s that?’
they’ll ask. ‘Oh this?’ you reply nonchalantly, ‘Only the coolest gadget EVER.’
In addition to looking very cool, the functionality is over-the-top useful. The mouse has three buttons and an LCD scroll panel all with default settings:
- Left button: primary mouse button
- Right button: context menu
- Scroll flat panel: quick/auto scroll
- Side button: page up
However (and this is big, I tell you), there are over thirty
different functions you can assign to these buttons. For example, are you a
lefty? You can make the right button the primary mouse button. Want to have a
button to automatically minimize your active window? Done. (It should be noted that you can only assign
one function per button. The key here, though, is that you have the freedom to
decide what works best for you!)
One of the functions you can assign to a button is called
Hypergrid. Hypergrid opens a menu of nine of the most-used functions (i.e.,
minimize or close active window, switch active window, etc.). Slide the pointer
over the function you want and click. It’s like having nine functions on one
button.
Another “wow” function is Hyperlink. It allows you to
associate a specific program with a button. When you press the button, the
program is opened. This can really streamline things if there’s a program you
use often.
The mouse runs on two
AAA batteries (included in the package) instead of being charged with a USB
cord. This could actually be a pro or a con depending on your preference (the
pro being no cords, the con being buying batteries). However, if you buy
lithium batteries this may not be an issue because those batteries last forever. Besides, your first set of batteries comes with the mouse.
Rocketfish wireless mouse, you’ve been Chili Tried and recommended! I’m giving you five out of five chilis.
